For Box Elder, this counts as revenge for the 40-38 defeat Woods Cross walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Box Elder's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashlyn Wight, who scored 15 points along with four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Thurgood, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.
Woods Cross' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Katie King, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. King scored a full 30% of Woods Cross' points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Avery Poulton, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Box Elder is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Woods Cross, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Box Elder will take on Viewmont at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Viewmont focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday. As for Woods Cross, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Clearfield at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Clearfield is ranked 30th, while Woods Cross is ranked 48th).
