Basketball Recap: Jax Howard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead the Webb School over Brentwood Academy

The Webb School lost against Brentwood Academy back in November of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Webb School Feet took a 71-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brentwood Academy Eagles. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (61), the Feet still had to take the loss.

Several Feet players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jax Howard, who posted 15 points along with eight assists and four steals. Howard's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Kirby, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, The Webb School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

The Webb School has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for Brentwood Academy, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-6.

The Webb School didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-48 victory against Independence on the 28th. As for Brentwood Academy, they will venture away from home to take on LEAD Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. LEAD Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Brentwood Academy likes a good challenge.
