The Dominion Christian Knights waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They walked away with a 38-28 victory over Atlanta Girls' School. This was payback for Dominion Christian, who suffered a 54-43 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dominion Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emory Maiyer, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Maiyer hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Sophia Jackson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Atlanta Girls' School's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Sanderson, who scored four points along with 18 rebounds and two steals. Sanderson hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Libby Knott, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Atlanta Girls' School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dominion Christian only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Dominion Christian pushed their record up to 16-8 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Atlanta Girls' School, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-4.
Dominion Christian will head out on the road to challenge Holy Spirit Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Dominion Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday. As for Atlanta Girls' School, they will head out on the road to square off against Cross Keys at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Cross Keys comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
