The Surry Central Golden Eagles pushed their score all the way to 36 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a serious blow against East Surry, falling 72-36. Surry Central has struggled against East Surry recently, as their game on Thursday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Surry Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Allen Huffman, who rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Tripp Mcmillen, who picked up 125 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
East Surry's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Matthew Edwards, who rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Edwards was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 58 yards. Another player making a difference was Will Jones, who threw for 209 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Surry Central's defeat was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 3-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.3 points per game. As for East Surry, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-3.
Surry Central will be playing at home against Wilkes Central at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. As for East Surry, they will head out on the road to face off against North Surry at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. North Surry is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
