Round Valley is a perfect 3-0 against Northland Prep Academy since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Elks are taking a road trip to square off against the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Round Valley barely beat St. Johns the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Elks were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Redskins on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Elks sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Brenton Walker made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Walker was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Jeffery Cochran was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. JJ Logan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Round Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Northland Prep Academy can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They put the hurt on Greyhills Academy with a sharp 12-6 win.
Like Round Valley, Northland Prep Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Blayden Cosper. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Cosper was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Michael Cary, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He has become a key player for Northland Prep Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Colson Skersick, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Round Valley's record now sits at 15-7. As for Northland Prep Academy, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Round Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Northland Prep Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Round Valley's way against Northland Prep Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, as Round Valley made off with a 13-3 win. Do the Elks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
