North Edgecombe has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Tarboro Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Edgecombe knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Tarboro likes a good challenge.
North Edgecombe has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 28 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped last Friday as they easily beat Rocky Mount Prep 71-15 at home. Given North Edgecombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Rocky Mount Prep is ranked 501st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
North Edgecombe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ke'Ziyah Pittman, who scored 11 points along with nine steals and seven assists. Pittman is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was ChyAsia Garrett, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and six steals.
Meanwhile, Tarboro was the victim of a tough 54-32 defeat at the hands of Weldon on Wednesday.
North Edgecombe's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Tarboro, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
North Edgecombe was taken down by Tarboro 66-26 in their previous matchup back in January. Can North Edgecombe avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
