The Williamstown Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to take on the Gilmer County Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Williamstown will be strutting in after a victory while Gilmer County will be coming in after a defeat.
Williamstown made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Magnolia, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Yellowjackets put the hurt on the Blue Eagles with a sharp 10-4 win on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Yellowjackets needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Alyssa Clare spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Williamstown got a big performance out of Nevaeh Moore, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Rush, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Moore wasn't the only one making solid contact: Williamstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The Yellowjackets are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Gilmer County suffered their biggest loss since April 6, 2024 on Wednesday. They lost 9-1 to Ravenswood. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Titans' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.
Gilmer County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Layla Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
The defeat snapped Gilmer County's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-3 record. As for Williamstown, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-6.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Williamstown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Gilmer County struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Williamstown suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Gilmer County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
