The Leesville Wampus Cats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 57-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sam Houston. Leesville lost against Sam Houston in their previous head to head back in December of 2020, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 44-38 score last time.
Leading Sam Houston to victory were Kyren Talbert and Blaine Davey. Talbert dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Davey scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Davey has scored at least 25% of Sam Houston's points. Another player making a difference was Derick Malveaux, who scored 6 points along with 6 rebounds.
Leesville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Sam Houston, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leesville's road trip will continue as they head out to face East Beauregard at 7:30 p.m. on November 30th. As for Sam Houston, they will challenge Pineville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pineville will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
