The Paradise Honors Panthers gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They took down Gilbert Christian 42-27. That's another feather in the cap for Paradise Honors, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Morgan Van Dyke was the offensive standout of the match as she scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Leal, who scored 9 points.
Kaila Aston and Lillie Duitsman certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Aston scored 14 points along with 4 blocks, while Duitsman scored 5 points along with 4 steals.
Paradise Honors' win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Gilbert Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Paradise Honors will head out on the road to face off against Queen Creek at 3:20 p.m. on Friday. Queen Creek will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while Paradise Honors is ranked 24th). As for Gilbert Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pusch Ridge Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Friday.
