The Hartfield Academy Hawks will head out on the road to take on the St. Joseph Catholic Bruins at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Hartfield Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Friday, Hartfield Academy faced Jackson Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Hartfield Academy fell just short of Jackson Prep by a score of 59-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Catholic's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 64-46 bruising from Jackson Academy. While losing is never fun, St. Joseph Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Jackson Academy is ranked first).
Hartfield Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 17-10. As for St. Joseph Catholic, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 21-9.
Hartfield Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their game against St. Joseph Catholic in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 39-35 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hartfield Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
