Montrose had lost five straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 4-17 to make it six. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Durango Demons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Demons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-7 on Friday.

04/22/25 @ Palisade | 1 |
Brekin Hutto spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jayce England made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.
As for Durango, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.
On Durango's side, Dawson McInnes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits. McInnes was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Austin Romero was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Duncan Walsh, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montrose will challenge Grand Junction Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Durango, they will face off against Palisade at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Demons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
