Fairfield and York Catholic are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Knights will venture away from home to face off against the Fighting Irish at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
Fairfield came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 7-0 to Bermudian Springs. The defeat continues a trend for the Knights in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.
Fairfield got a good showing from Eddie Eichenlaub, who tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Eichenlaub a new career-low in walks (zero).
On the hitting side, Fairfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Bell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, York Catholic came into Tuesday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Hanover with a sharp 12-0 win on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Fighting Irish have posted against the Nighthawks since April 6, 2021.
Luke Manfredi was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Oswald, who scored two runs and stole two bases.
York Catholic's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-8. As for Fairfield, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fairfield has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like York Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Fairfield skirted past York Catholic 14-13 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
