Atherton is 0-6 against Male since May of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Ravens will head out to square off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m.
Atherton fell victim to North Oldham and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 8-0 to the Mustangs. The Ravens just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Atherton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Cummins, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Male faced Pleasure Ridge Park in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bulldogs beat the Panthers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by eight runs or more this season.
Josslyn Woosley made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Manning, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Male always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pleasure Ridge Park only posted an OBP of .304.
The victory (which was Male's sixth in a row) raised their record to 25-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Atherton, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-20.
Atherton came up short against Male in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Ravens avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
