The Muncie Central Bearcats lost against the Noblesville Millers back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The New Year welcomed Muncie Central with a 66-39 whooping from Noblesville. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Muncie Central in their matchups with Noblesville: they've now lost five in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Muncie Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is DeMarkis Cole. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points. The match was Cole's third in a row with at least ten points. Gabe Reynolds was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Noblesville had a senior duo take command as Hunter Walston scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals and Aaron Fine scored 20 points along with six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Fine has scored at least 25% of Noblesville's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Smits, who scored seven points.
Muncie Central's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-7. As for Noblesville, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Muncie Central and Richmond will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Richmond is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Noblesville, they will head out on the road to face off against Zionsville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Zionsville is on a four-game streak of home wins, Noblesville a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
