Dayspring Christian Academy and Dawson School are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dayspring Christian Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Dayspring Christian Academy earned a 4-1 win over Clear Creek. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Golddiggers: they've now won eight in a row.
Logan Vaniddekinge was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gavin Bohl was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Josiah Rodriguez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Dawson School came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on Denver Academy with a sharp 21-1 win. Dawson School might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 11 runs or more this season.
Like Dayspring Christian Academy, Dawson School also got a great game from a two-way player: Dawson Kusel. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Kusel was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Dawson School's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaxson Wheat, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He has become a key player for Dawson School: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Henry Cox, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Dawson School kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.6.
Dawson School now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Dayspring Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 12-3.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dayspring Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. However, it's not like Dawson School struggles in that department as they've averaged .502. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dayspring Christian Academy might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Dawson School when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
