Churchill County and Fernley are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Churchill County Greenwave will head out on the road to challenge the Fernley Vaqueros at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Churchill County earned a 62-50 win over Lowry. The win made it back-to-back wins for Churchill County.
It was another big night for Brady Alves, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Baylor Sandberg, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Fernley had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. They really took it to Spring Creek for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-43 win at home. Fernley has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 20 points or more this season.
Fernley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Johnnie Williams, who scored 26 points along with two steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of Fernley's points. Another player making a difference was Anthony Winters, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
The win got Churchill County back to even at 9-9. As for Fernley, their win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Churchill County hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 54.7 points per game. It's a different story for Fernley, though, as they've been averaging only 65.1 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Churchill County and Fernley were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but Churchill County came up empty-handed after a 79-78 defeat. Thankfully for Churchill County, Jett Caudle (who scored 35 points along with five rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
