The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by Enloe at home to the tune of 63-32. Given Cardinal Gibbons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Enloe is ranked 334th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cash McSweeney was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 15 points for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Aiden Smalls, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Enloe still got an impressive performance from Gift Moses, who scored five points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Cardinal Gibbons has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Enloe, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-17.
Cardinal Gibbons will be playing in front of their home fans against Broughton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cardinal Gibbons is coming into the match with three straight wins at home, so Broughton is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. Enloe is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Sanderson at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th. Sanderson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Enloe likes a good challenge.
