The Iroquois Braves's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They took a 55-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mercyhurst Prep. While losing is never fun, Iroquois can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 487th, while Mercyhurst Prep is ranked 221st).
Despite the defeat, Iroquois saw an underclassman step up: Kellen Burroughs dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Brink, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
It was another big night for Craig Buckner, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals for Mercyhurst Prep. Jeremy Ganska was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Iroquois' loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Mercyhurst Prep, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.
Iroquois will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. Iroquois is facing Northwestern at the right time seeing as Northwestern is stuck on a 18-game losing streak. As for Mercyhurst Prep, they and Erie will face off at 5:30 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Mercyhurst Prep's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
