Calhoun City is 8-1 against Eupora since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Calhoun City Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Eupora Eagles at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Calhoun City has nine straight wins, Eupora has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Calhoun City stacked a eighth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They blew past Palmer, posting a 44-8 win at home. Given Calhoun City's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Palmer is ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jamajah Mayes, who rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Mayes is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Calhoun City also got help from Shane Farmer who showed off his sure hands for 81 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Eupora fell victim to Choctaw County's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 35-0 loss at the hands of the Chargers. The last quarter was a mere formality, since the game's final score was reached by the end of the third quarter.
Calhoun City's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Coffeeville and 2-8 Aberdeen (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30.4% over those games). As for Eupora, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Calhoun City came up short against Eupora when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 30-18. Thankfully for Calhoun City, Ty Murphy (who rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 153 yards and a touchdown while completing 72.7% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
