Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Payson). They put the hurt on the Ogden Tigers with a sharp 18-9 victory on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.
Maddux DeGraffenried made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Payson is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-12 otherwise. DeGraffenried was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cole Neves, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Looking ahead, Payson will head out on the road to take on Juab at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wasps will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ogden, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ben Lomond at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers are facing the Scots at the right time seeing as the Scots are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
