The Bayfield Wolverines lost against the Pagosa Springs Pirates back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Bayfield took a serious blow against Pagosa Springs, falling 40-7. Bayfield was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-0.
Despite the loss, Bayfield still got an impressive performance from Keaton Pickering, who rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown.
Seth Zeigler was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 68 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Creede Dozier was another key contributor, throwing for 73 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes.
This is the second loss in a row for Bayfield and nudges their season record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Delta (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 83.3% over those games). As for Pagosa Springs, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Bayfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Pagosa Springs will head out on the road to face off against La Junta at 1:00 p.m. on November 4th. La Junta is on a five-game streak of home wins, Pagosa Springs a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
