The Myrtle Hawks were the 46-14 winner over the Byers Lions when they last played one another back in October of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. Myrtle was just a hair shy of victory on Thursday and fell 28-27 to Byers. Myrtle has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Myrtle lost, one person who can't be blamed is Joe Kizer. Despite the final result, he rushed for 270 yards and three touchdowns.
Myrtle's loss was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their record down to 1-9. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.7 points per game. As for Byers, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7.
Myrtle will take on West Lowndes at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. As for Byers, they will head out on the road to face off against Vardaman at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Vardaman knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully Byers likes a good challenge.
