The Cherokee Trail Cougars struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Grandview Wolves had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Cherokee Trail received a tough blow as they fell 52-37 to Grandview. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cherokee Trail has scored all season.
Loss or not, Cherokee Trail got some senior leadership from Braylen Thomas and Amari Chandler. Thomas scored 19 points along with five rebounds, while Chandler. scored six points along with five steals and two blocks. Thomas is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Baack, who scored six points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grandview to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cole Holtman, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Holtman has scored all season. Breven Anderson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Cherokee Trail has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Grandview, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-9.
Cherokee Trail will challenge Smoky Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Smoky Hill knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 matches -- so hopefully Cherokee Trail likes a good challenge. As for Grandview, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Arapahoe at 7:00 p.m. Arapahoe and Grandview are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
