It was a good run, but the Escambia County Blue Devils unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 65-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hillcrest. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Escambia County's loss came despite strong showings from Stephen Williams and Cleo Bolar jr.. Williams dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Bolar jr. scored 23 points along with two steals. That was a full 39% of Escambia County's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael French, who scored six points.
It was another big night for Robert Simpson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds for Hillcrest. Simpson has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times he's played. Jermonte Stallworth was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Escambia County's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Hillcrest, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.
Escambia County will look to defend their home court on Friday against Jackson at 7:30 p.m. As for Hillcrest, they will take on Robertsdale at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Robertsdale is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
