The Freeport Red Devils had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They enjoyed a cozy 48-29 victory over Wheatley on Friday.
Freeport's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jevon Saul led the charge by dropping a double-double on 10 points and 14 rebounds. Latrell Tucker was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Freeport's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Wheatley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Freeport will be playing at home against Academy Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Academy Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Saturday. Wheatley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
