5A District 6 recap October 22, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Pasco, who took down 225th ranked Hernando, 7-0.
The Pirates scaled the state rankings by moving to 265 from 304 this week, the biggest jump in 5A District 6. Pasco climbed the ranks as a result of defeating the Leopards 7-0.
Zephyrhills's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Justin Swanstrom threw for 148 and 2 touchdowns and Devon Brockington had 101 yards receiving. On the ground Jaylen Pickett contributed 129 yards. Kayel Oppenheimer helped Zephyrhills' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 28 yards.
Marcus Allen was a passing and rushing force as Weeki Wachee topped Colonial. He completed 7 passes for 66 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 103 yards. Allen's key target this week was Jonathan King, who caught 5 passes for 53 yards.
Swanstrom put up the best numbers in passing as the Bulldogs defeated Central. Swanstrom's favorite target this week was Brockington, who caught 3 passes for 101 yards.
5-foot-9 quarterback Allen of the Hornets is the league leader in passing yards this season with 577. He has also thrown 5 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Brockington. The Zephyrhills star has 18 catches for 338 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Weeki Wachee takes on South Sumter. Mark Lee's team is in fourth place, while the Raiders are in first place.
The Hornets were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, Weeki Wachee defeated the Grenadiers 31-28.
