After a string of three wins, The Lawrence-Nelson Raiders''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were beaten by South Loup 62-12. While losing is never fun, Lawrence-Nelson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 54th, while South Loup is ranked sixth).
It was another big night for Trey Connell, who rushed for 158 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also threw for 83 yards and a touchdown while completing 80% of his passes. Connell hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Conner Paulsen, who rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown.
Lawrence-Nelson's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for South Loup, their win was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-0.
Lawrence-Nelson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. South Loup will stay at home for another week and welcome Central Valley at 6:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Central Valley is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
