There's no place like home for the Wakefield Trojans, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They rang in the new year with a 48-37 victory over Woodbury Central on Thursday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Wakefield also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Wakefield found their leader in underclassman Cael Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Johnson's third in a row with at least ten points. Anthony Valenzuela was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Wakefield's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Woodbury Central, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wakefield won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Walthill at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. One thing working in Walthill's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Woodbury Central won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Siouxland Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Iowa (Siouxland Christian is ranked 337th, while Woodbury Central is ranked 331st).
