Baseball Game Preview: Griffith Panthers vs. La Porte Slicers

The Griffith Panthers will venture away from home to take on the La Porte Slicers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Griffith will be strutting in after a win while La Porte will be coming in after a defeat.

On Wednesday, Griffith got the win against Hammond Central by a conclusive 18-2. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Parker Hecht looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Jason Quillin and Logan Jimenez did most of the damage at the plate: Quillin scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Jimenez scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Jimenez a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Jackson Davenport, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Griffith always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hammond Central only posted an OBP of .364.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for La Porte's offense. They lost 11-0 to Crown Point on Wednesday. The Slicers' loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Griffith's record is now 2-0. As for La Porte, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Griffith might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from La Porte in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
