The Chardon Hilltoppers will face off against the South Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, Chardon earned a 7-3 win over North. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hilltoppers.
Alexa Anderson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Anderson was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Savannah Murray, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Anderson, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Chardon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, South got the win against West Geauga on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-2. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by nine runs or more this season.
Halle Zupancic spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, Makayla Schneider was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Savannah Jolly was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
South is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Chardon, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
South's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Chardon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for South, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Chardon keep running through batters, or will the Rebels buck the trend?
Chardon skirted past South 6-5 in their previous matchup on Monday. Will the Hilltoppers repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
