Baseball Game Preview: Madison Bobcats vs. Highland Rams

Madison hasn't had much luck against Highland recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Madison will head out to take on Highland at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Madison and Rigby, and Madison kept the tradition alive. Madison was the clear victor by a 12-1 margin over Rigby on Saturday.

Highland hadn't beaten Mountain View on the road since May 19, 2016 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. Highland came out on top against Mountain View by a score of 8-5.

Kai Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cannon Eddie, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Cooper Colonel was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Highland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Madison's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Highland, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season.

Madison might still be hurting after the 20-3 defeat they got from Highland in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Madison avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
