The Calvary Christian Academy Eagles's ten-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They managed a 49-44 win over Saint Andrew. The victory was all the more spectacular given Calvary Christian Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 415th, while Saint Andrew's is ranked 188th).
Calvary Christian Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taryn Wakefield, who scored 18 points along with three steals. Teagan Wakefield was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Despite the loss, Saint Andrew's had strong showings from Emma Smith, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and four steals, and Delaney Beighley, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Gottlieb, who scored two points along with six rebounds.
Calvary Christian Academy's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11. As for Saint Andrew's, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvary Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Pine Crest at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. As for Saint Andrew's, they will head out on the road to square off against NSU University at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
