Baseball Game Preview: Richwood Lumberjacks vs. Midland Trail Patriots

Richwood hasn't had much luck against Midland Trail recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Lumberjacks will be playing at home against the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. Richwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Richwood is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against Mount View on Thursday. The Lumberjacks came out on top against the Golden Knights by a score of 9-4. The victory continues a trend for the Lumberjacks in their matchups with the Golden Knights: they've now won three in a row.

Cameron Jenkins was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. Richwood is undefeated when Jenkins posts two or more runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Riley Crites, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Midland Trail is still winless after their game against Wyoming East on Tuesday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Warriors. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Patriots have suffered since April 20, 2024.

Midland Trail saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xaylen Johns, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

The win got Richwood back to even at 3-3. As for Midland Trail, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Richwood's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. The Lumberjacks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game.
