Softball Recap: Memorial Comes Up Short

Memorial had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 12-11 to make it five. They fell 8-3 to the Cypress Ridge Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-6 back in February.

Karli DeAnda was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits.

On the hitting side, Memorial saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Cannizaro, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Another was Brooke Kearns, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Cypress Ridge, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Cypress Ridge's side, Kayla Ortega made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Ortega has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ariel Arambula, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Brianna Morales was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Memorial is set to face off against their familiar foe Cy-Fair at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Cypress Ridge will square off against rival Cypress Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
