Millington Central is 0-5 against Brighton since March of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Trojans will host the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Millington Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Millington Central and Covington, and Covington kept the tradition alive. The Trojans took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chargers on Tuesday.
Hayley Stevens made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Grace Bell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Brighton came tearing into Monday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 15-5 victory. Considering the Cardinals have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Brighton also got a great performance from Laney Lawson as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aliya Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aeryl Potter, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Brighton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Brighton's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Millington Central, they now have a losing record of 8-9-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Millington Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Brighton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
