Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Sumrall

Sumrall waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Forrest County Agricultural Aggies with a sharp 13-0 victory. Considering the Bobcats have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Marley Moore looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kara Applewhite, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kynnedy Lumpkins, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Sumrall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forrest County Agricultural only posted an OBP of .154.

Sumrall pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Forrest County Agricultural, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Sumrall Bobcats face off against Lawrence County Cougars at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Sumrall's pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so Lawrence County's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Forrest County Agricultural, they will challenge Salem at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Forrest County Agricultural has given up an average of 9.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
