On Tuesday, the Damonte Ranch Mustangs faced the Douglas Tigers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Damonte Ranch sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 44-41 victory over Douglas. The win was nothing new for Damonte Ranch as they're now sitting on five straight.
Douglas' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aleeah Weaver, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Weaver is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Zora Simpson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Damonte Ranch has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. As for Douglas, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Damonte Ranch will take on Galena at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Damonte Ranch is facing Galena at the right time seeing as Galena is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Douglas, they will be playing at home against Carson at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Douglas is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Carson in Nevada (Douglas is ranked tenth, while Carson is ranked 52nd).
