The Smithfield Sentinels will square off against the Moses Brown Quakers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Smithfield's victory against St. Mary Academy-Bay View wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Sentinels skirted past the Bengals 10-8. The Sentinels haven't had any issues with the Bengals recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Moses Brown). Everything went their way against Cumberland on Thursday as they made off with an 11-3 victory. The Quakers not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 12, 2025 (when they won 17-7).
Abby McAuliffe made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Moses Brown let Abby DeWolf and Ava Lourenco run wild. DeWolf went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Lourenco went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. What's more, DeWolf posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmy Monchik, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Moses Brown's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Smithfield, the victory got them back to even at 4-4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Smithfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Moses Brown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Smithfield got the 'W' when the teams last played on Friday against Moses Brown by a conclusive 10-4 score. Will the Sentinels repeat their success, or do the Quakers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
