Baseball Recap: Devine Wins Going Away Against Somerset

Devine came out on top against Somerset on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run sixth inning. The Warhorses were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Bulldogs. This was a revenge game for the Warhorses: when they faced off against the Bulldogs back in March, they had to take a 2-1 loss.

Rudy Costilla made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up four earned runs off ten hits. Costilla was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Anthony Saldivar was a standout: he got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Riley Gutierrez was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Devine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Devine and bumps their season record up to 9-13-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Somerset, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-15 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Devine will face off against Pearsall at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warhorses are facing the Mavericks at the right time seeing as the Mavericks are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Somerset, they will square off against Medina Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
