The Cass Colonels lost against the Cartersville Hurricanes on January 12th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Cass' tough 56-31 defeat to the Hurricanes might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cass in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now lost five in a row.
Cartersville found their leader in underclassman Kaytlin Arnold, who scored 22 points along with seven steals. Arnold continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoie Shiflett, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Cass' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-8. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Cartersville, Dalton, and Calhoun. As for Cartersville, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cass will take on the Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calhoun and the Colonels are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads. As for Cartersville, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Catamounts at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th.
