Deep Creek is 2-8 against Great Bridge since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Hornets will host the Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. Deep Creek is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Ocean Lakes hit Deep Creek with a six-run sixth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets fell just short of the Dolphins by a score of 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hornets have suffered since March 26, 2024.
Deep Creek saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly B, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another was Hailey Lack, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Great Bridge). Everything went their way against King's Fork on Thursday as they made off with a 15-5 win. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Jensyn Koonce spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Great Bridge let Adelynn Palmer and Cara Lechowicz run wild. Palmer went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Lechowicz went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs Lechowicz has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Parker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Great Bridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as King's Fork only posted an OBP of .370.
Great Bridge's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Deep Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Deep Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. However, it's not like Great Bridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
