Amherst County and the Minutemen are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Amherst County Lancers will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Liberty Minutemen at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Amherst County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 45-41 to the Bees. Amherst County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Amherst County's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Hannah Hooper, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds, and Syrell McQueen who scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Emmena Awanda, who scored two points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Liberty took a serious blow against the Bulldogs on Friday, falling 73-32. Liberty has struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as their game on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Amherst County has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.
Amherst County came up short against the Minutemen in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 56-47. Thankfully for Amherst County, Iyana Sigei (who almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, ten assists, and 14 steals) won't be suiting up this time.
