The Rocky Mount Gryphons pushed their score all the way to 68 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 78-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northern Nash. Even though they lost, Rocky Mount's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.5 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Several Gryphons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emanauel Battle, who scored 15 points. Zyquae Pittman was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds.
Izeal Mallory II continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Northern Nash, scoring 30 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Mallory II's trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was CJ Rosser, who shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Rocky Mount has fallen quite a ways from their 21-4 record last season and are now at 3-9. As for Northern Nash, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-7.
Rocky Mount won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Roanoke Rapids at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Roanoke Rapids will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Northern Nash will take on D.H. Conley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
