The Montgomery Red Raiders will challenge the Benton Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Montgomery's win against Millville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Red Raiders skirted past the Quakers 16-14. The Red Raiders haven't had any issues with the Quakers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Parker Bennett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Max Furman was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with seven RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Victor Ottman, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Benton hadn't done well against Bloomsburg recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Tigers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since March 26, 2024.
Benton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Seth Kolb, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
The victory made it two in a row for Benton and bumps their season record up to 6-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Montgomery, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Montgomery beat Benton 7-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Red Raiders repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
