If the Highland Hawks were riding high off their 52-21 takedown of the Queen Creek Bulldogs last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Highland was the victim of a rough 68-46 loss at the hands of Gilbert on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Highland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Gilbert is ranked third).
Highland lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bailey Williams, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Riggs, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gilbert to victory, but perhaps none more so than Morgan Evenson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Meisha Caserio was another key contributor, scoring 23 points along with two steals.
Highland's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8. As for Gilbert, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-2.
