The Horizon Hawks waltzed into their matchup Wednesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They escaped with a win against McDowell by the margin of a single free throw, 48-47. Given Horizon's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 18th in Colorado, while McDowell is ranked 397th in Pennsylvania), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Morgan Ives continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Horizon's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlin Schumann, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
Horizon's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for McDowell, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Horizon will take on Tournament Opponent in a holiday battle at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at. Tournament Opponent has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. McDowell won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against James Madison at 2:30 p.m. on December 21st.
