Weeki Wachee is 0-9 against Dunnellon since March of 2016 but things could change on Monday. The Weeki Wachee Hornets will square off against the Dunnellon Tigers at 8:00 p.m. Weeki Wachee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Weeki Wachee lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Seven Rivers Christian, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's contest. Weeki Wachee never let Seven Rivers Christian get on the board and left with a 17-0 win on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hornets considering their one-run performance the game before.
Alvalyn Crisp was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Crisp was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Austyn Childs was a standout: she scored three runs and stole six bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Jayden Russo was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Weeki Wachee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Dunnellon fell victim to Crystal River and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 1-0. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now lost four in a row.
Makayla Duncan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks.
Dunnellon's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Weeki Wachee, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games dating back to last season and leaves them with a 1-3 record.
Dunnellon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Weeki Wachee has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. It's a different story for Dunnellon, though, as they've only averaged .241. Will they be able to contain Weeki Wachee's hitters?
Weeki Wachee suffered a grim 18-1 defeat to Dunnellon in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Can Weeki Wachee avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
