The Bellevue West Thunderbirds had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They secured a 50-45 W over Millard North. For Bellevue West, this counts as revenge for the 74-62 defeat Millard North walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bellevue West to victory, but perhaps none more so than Naomi White, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which White has scored at least 25% of Bellevue West's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahnica Russell-brown, who scored 15 points.
Millard North's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avril Smith, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and four blocks. Sara Harley was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Bellevue West's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Millard North, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bellevue West will face off against Pius X at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Pius X focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Saturday. Millard North will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Lincoln East. Lincoln East will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 189th, while Millard North is ranked 37th).
