Whiteland and Decatur Central are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Warriors will host the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Whiteland is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
On Monday, Whiteland needed a bit of extra time to put away Shelbyville. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Golden Bears, sneaking past 3-2.
Joslynn Skaggs was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyrstin Farr, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. Kaelyn Putnam was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Whiteland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, while Decatur Central put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Lafayette Jefferson. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Bronchos.
Decatur Central let Mak Wilkerson and Kenzie Cummings run wild. Wilkerson went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Cummings went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that Wilkerson has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Harlow Estes, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Decatur Central's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Whiteland, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Whiteland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Decatur Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Whiteland's way against Decatur Central when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as Whiteland made off with a 19-9 victory. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
