West Branch is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Lakeview is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Warriors will host the Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. West Branch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
West Branch had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Alliance on Friday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Aviators with a sharp 14-6 win. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Aviators recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Klary McKay was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. McKay was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since April 3rd.
In other batting news, West Branch let Libbie Davis and Zoe Carreon run wild. Davis got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Carreon went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Carreon a new career-high. Carly Loper was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
West Branch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alliance only managed eight hits.
Meanwhile, Lakeview hadn't done well against Champion recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Golden Flashes by a score of 7-3.
Isabella Isenberg made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kennedy Bartlett, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Stowe, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Lakeview's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for West Branch, their victory bumped their record up to 12-3.
West Branch's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's game. The Warriors have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lakeview, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will West Branch continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went West Branch's way against Lakeview in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, as West Branch made off with a 13-3 win. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
